984 DORCHESTER COUNTY. [ART. 10.

with said southern line to the western boundary of the town;
thence with the northwestern line of the said town to Glasgow
street; and thence with Glasgow street to the place of beginning.
Third ward—beginning for the third ward at the foot of Gay
street; thence with Court lane to High street; thence with High
to Pine street; thence with Pine to Muir street; thence with
Muir to the creek; thence running down and binding with the
creek, to the place of beginning. Fourth ward—beginning for
the fourth ward at the foot of Muir street; thence with Muir to
Pine street; thence with Pine to the southern line of the town;
Whence running and binding with the southern and eastern limits
of said town to the creek; thence running and binding with the
creek to the place of beginning. Fifth ward—all that part of
said town located in East Cambridge shall constitute the fifth
ward.

45. The county commissioners, on the first day of October in
each year, shall pay to the commissioners of said town the
sum of seven hundred dollars, out of the taxes levied and col-
lected for roads in the county, to be applied by the said town
commissioners for corporate purposes.

46. The mayor of the town of Cambridge, the president of
the board of trade of said town, and the State's attorney for
Dorchester county, shall constitute a board of police commis-
sioners, to serve without pay, and they, or a majority of them,
shall appoint, on or about the first day of October, of each and
every year, four sober, discreet and muscular men for policemen,
whose term of service shall be six months, unless sooner dis-
charged for inefficiency or misconduct; the said police board, or
a majority of them, shall fill all vacancies occasioned by resigna-
tion, death, discharge, or other causes, and shall have power to
temporarily increase the number of police, and to temporarily
appoint police from April to October, when, in their judgment,
the peace or safety of the town demand them; they shall arrange
the police force so that a part of them shall be on duty during
each day, and a part of them on duty during each night; and the
said police board shall furnish the police with proper arms and a
badge of office, that the police shall wear exposed on the left
