to be necessary for the support of the almshouse and of out-pen-
sioners; provided, the same shall not exceed the sum of three-
thousand dollars.

26. If any person shall sell or dispose of any strong liquor, or
other thing, to any inmate of said almshouse, he shall forfeit and
pay the sum of twenty five dollars, to be recovered by suit in the
name of the said trustees.

27. No person shall permit his swine or geese to go at large im
the town of Benedict; and any citizen of said town may kill or
impound any hog or goose found going at large therein; and if
the owner of any hog or goose impounded shall not within three-
days after notice in writing, redeem such hog or goose, by paying
for impounding the same the sum of one dollar for every hog and
thirty-seven and a half cents for every goose, the person impound-
ing may sell the same at the most public place in said town, and
after deducting the penalties aforesaid shall pay the balance of
the proceeds of sale to the owner.

28. If any person shall be sued for impounding or killing any
hog or goose found going at large in said town he may plead the
general issue and give the special matter in evidence.

29. It shall not be lawful for any person in Charles county
to shoot, kill or in any manner take, trap, encage, barter or sell
any English mocking birds, old or young, or wilfully destroy the
eggs or nests of said birds.

30. The possession by any person in Charles county of any
birds mentioned in the preceding section shall be prima fade
evidence of a violation of such section.
