144. It shall not be lawful to haul a seine of any description
whatever in the waters of the Choptank river and its tribu-
taries, for the purpose of catching fish, from and after the twen-
tieth day of May to the first day of August in each and every
year.

145. Any person violating the preceding section, upon con-
viction thereof before a justice of the peace residing in either of
the counties of Caroline, Dorchester or Talbot, opposite the
shores where the offence is committed, shall be fined not less
than ten dollars nor more than twenty-five dollars for each
offence, to be collected in the same manner and by the same pro-
cess of law as other fines or small debts are collected.

146. Upon default in the payment of such fine,, the seine
or boat, or both, shall be liable to seizure, and upon ten days'
notice being given, shall be sold, and a sufficiency of the proceeds
of the sale shall be appropriated to the payment of the fines and
costs, and the balance, if any, shall be paid over to the owner of
said seine and boat; provided, however, that an appeal to the Cir-
cuit court shall in all cases be allowed if demanded by the de-
fendant within ten days from the date of judgment; and upon
the filing of an approved appeal bond at the time of praying such
appeal, execution upon such judgment shall be stayed as in ordi-
nary cases before justices of the peace.

147. The inhabitants of the village of Greensborough, in Car-
oline county, are a body corporate by the name of the "Commis-
sioners of Greensborough," and by that name may sue and be
sued, may purchase and hold real, personal and mixed property,
or dispose of the same for the benefit of said village, and may
have and use a common seal, which may be altered at pleasure.
