the counties, shall apply to the clerk of the court of common
pleas, and it shall be his duty to comply with such provisions.

CLERK OF THE CRIMINAL COURT OF BALTEMORE.

219. The clerk of the criminal court of Baltimore shall give
bond to the State of Maryland in the penalty of fourteen thou-
sand dollars, with sufficient security, to be approved by the judge
of said court, and conditioned for the faithful performance of all
the duties now required, or which may hereafter be required of
him by law, and to be recorded in the office of said clerk.

220. The said clerk shall renew said bond at the same time
and under the same penalty as are prescribed for the clerks of
the circuit courts.

COURT NUMBER TWO OF BALTIMORE CITY.

221. The clerk of the circuit court of Baltimore city, and of
the circuit court number two of Baltimore city shall respectively
enter into bond to the State in the penalty of twenty thousand
dollars, conditioned for the faithful discharge of his duties, with,
security to be approved by the judge of said court.

222. Whenever the fees or other compensation of any of the
clerks of the courts of Baltimore city shall, after the payment of
all necessary expenses, fail to pay such officers the salary
provided for by the constitution, and any of said clerks
shall, under section first, article fifteen, of the constitution, have
paid to the State any sum of money as excess, after retaining his
salary, such excess is appropriated to the payment of the salary
so in arrear until each of said clerks shall have received the full
amount thereof; and it shall be the duty of the comptroller of
