good order of said town, and to perform such other duties as may
be assigned to him by them, and for this purpose he is vested
with the same power and authority that constables have under
the laws of this State.

212. They shall have full power and authority to straighten
and widen old streets, and to lay out and grade new ones, when
in their discretion the same may be necessary; and to provide
for the payment of damages and expenses incurred by widening
or opening streets, by levying and assessing the same generally
upon the whole of the assessable property of said town, or upon
the property of persons benefited thereby.

213. They may provide for levying and collecting, annually, a
tax, not exceeding one dollar, on every dog, and two dollars on
every bitch, within the limits of said corporation; and may also
provide for the killing of every dog and bitch whose owner can-
not be ascertained, or whose owner shall refuse to pay said tax
within thirty days after a written notice has been delivered to
him to pay the same.

214. They may provide for the levying and collecting of a
special license or tax of ten dollars on each circus, and five dollars
on each side-show, exhibiting within the corporate limits of Poco-
moke city, and a special discretionary license tax on all smaller
dramatic and other performances or entertainments for gain, not
to exceed two dollars for each and every such performance.
1865, ch. 151:
215. Nothing herein contained shall be so construed as to
authorize said corporation to issue any device, note, certificate or
evidence of debt to be used as currency.

into the waters of the Pocomoke river, for the purpose of taking
