2100 WICOMICO COUNTY. [ART. 23.

or agent, the said owner, tenant or agent shall forthwith notify,
by the most convenient means, the owner or keeper of said dog,
of the depredations so committed; and if the owner or keeper of
said dog shall refuse or fail to kill, remove or keep the same from
said county, within ten days after receiving said notice, then it
shall be lawful for the owner of said sheep, or the said tenant or
agent, to kill said dog at the first opportunity thereafter.

180. In addition to the provisions in the preceding section,
the owner or keeper of said dog shall be held responsible in law
for all losses or damages sustained by the owner of said sheep, in
consequence of the killing or wounding of the same, as aforesaid,
and shall be liable to all legal proceedings for the collection of
debts in this State, for the recovery of the said damages.

181. The several justices of the peace in "Wicomico county-
are authorized to try and determine all cases that may arise under
this sub-title of this article, and shall construe its provisions liber-
ally, so as to contribute as much as possible to the protection of
sheep in said county.

STALLIONS.

1888, ch. 516.

182. The owner of any stallion may enter into a contract with
the owner of any mare pledging the progeny of such mare by
such stallion for the amount of the service money of such stal-
lion; such contract shall be in writing, signed by the respective
parties thereto, and attested by at least one witness, and shall be
recorded in the office of the clerk of the county wherein such
mare is situated, among the records of bills of sale, within twenty-
days after its date; and from and after the date of the record
thereof, and for the space of one year from the date of the foal-
ing of such progeny, the owner of said stallion shall have a lien
upon said progeny for the amount of the service money afore-
said ; and if the said owner of said mare, without the consent of
the owner of said stallion first had and obtained in writing, shall
remove such mare or foal out of the county where said contract
