be the duty of the said commissioners to cause the papers con-
nected therewith to be delivered to the clerk of said county on
petition, in writing, of any party feeling aggrieved; and the per-
sons appointed to assess the damages as aforesaid shall receive
such compensation as the commissioners shall determine.

175. The said commissioners have power to pass all laws
and ordinances necessary for grading, regulating, paving and re-
paving the footways and sidewalks of the streets, lanes and alleys
thereof in said town, and may impose a tax on any lot abutting on
any street, lane or alley, for the purpose of grading, regulating,
paving and repaving the footways or sidewalks in front thereof,
or causing the same to be improved, graded, paved or repaved,
and such tax shall be a lien on the abutting property, and shall be
collected by suit and execution, aa debts are now collected by law,
agreeably to the ordinance to be passed by them.

176. The commissioners may pass ordinances for the regula-
tion and prevention of the running at large of horses, cattle, sheep,
hogs, chickens, ducks and geese, on the streets or public places
in said town, and may provide by ordinance for a tax on dogs.

charter shall remain in office until the election and qualification
of their successors.

178. Wicomico, Howard, Caroline, Cecil, Dorchester and
Worcester counties are exempted from the provisions of sections
1 and 2, of article 86 of the code of public general laws, title
" Sheep."
1880, ch. 463.
179. It shall be unlawful for any dog to kill or wound any
sheep in Wicomico county; and if any owner of any sheep, his
tenant or agent, in said county, shall at any time obtain any
reliable information of any dog having killed or wounded any
sheep belonging to said owner, or left in the care of said tenant
