32. They shall levy the State and county taxes for said county
on or before the first day of March in each year.

33. They shall levy within the year for all the expenses and
disbursements of the county, which, by a careful estimate, will
be required for that year, with ten per cent, added for discount,
allowances and expenses of collection.

34. The president of the board of county commissioners may
sign all deeds or leases for property sold or otherwise alienated
by the county, and annex, or cause to be annexed thereto, the
seal of the county commissioners.

35. All claims upon said county for which levies shall be
made by the county commissioners, and for which payment shall
not be demanded from the treasurer of the county within three
years from the time when the same were levied, shall be deemed
forfeited to the use of the county, and the money levied shall
thereafter be applicable to the payment of the current expenses
of the county; but the county commissioners may, in their dis-
cretion, levy anew for any such claim, but without interest.

36. They are authorized and empowered to sell, when in their

discretion it shall be deemed advisable, any or all stocks held and
owned by Baltimore county in any turnpike roads in this State.

1878, ch. 118.

37. They shall have power to erect and maintain lamps upon
the streets and public highways of towns and villages in Balti-
more county, at such places and in such number as they shall
determine; and may also in their discretion procure suitable ap-
paratus for extinguishing fires, and provide for keeping the same

in such manner and at such places as they shall determine.
