18 ALLEGANY COUNTY. [ART. 1.

reliable fire insurance company or companies, and shall provide
annually for the payment of such premiums as may be charged
upon such policies of insurance as aforesaid.

COUNTY TREASURER.

1873, ch. 04.

39. Said commissioners, at their annual meetings in April of
every year, may appoint a fit person, a resident of said county, to
act as county treasurer for the period of one year, and until a
successor is appointed and qualified, who shall be removable at
their pleasure.

40. Said treasurer, before entering upon the duties of his
office, shall execute a bond to the State of Maryland, with sure-
ties to be approved by the county commissioners, in the penalty
of double the amount of the tax levied for the current year for
the county, conditioned for the true and faithful performance of
the duties of the office of treasurer, which bond shall be recorded
in the office of the clerk of the circuit court for said county, and
a certified copy thereof shall be evidence in any court in this
State; and in default of said treasurer executing said bond within
ten days after he is notified of his appointment, he shall forfeit
his office, and the county commissioners may declare the said.
office vacant, and may proceed to fill the same by the appoint-
ment, in his stead, of a suitable person for the remainder of the
term; and such appointee shall, before he enters upon the duties
of his office, execute and deliver a bond of the tenor and in the
like manner as hereinbefore directed; and in case of a vacancy
in said office of treasurer, in consequence of death, resignation,
removal or disqualification, the county commissioners shall fill
said vacancy as soon thereafter as practicable.

41. Said treasurer shall receive and pay on the order of the
county commissioners, the proceeds of all county taxes levied in
said county and paid over to him, and shall keep a full and true
account of all taxes paid over to him, and all moneys received by
Mm for the county, and of all matters relating to the duties of
the said office, with all vouchers therefor, and shall, whenever
