SCHOOLS.

104. The county commissioners are empowered and directed
to levy for the building of a school house for white children in
election district number five, in Foster's Neck, and in election
district number six, respectively, such sum of money as in their
opinion may be sufficient for such purpose.
SHERIFF.

105. The sheriff of St. Mary's county shall receive for keep-
ing each prisoner committed to his custody, and for providing
victuals and fire for each prisoner, the sum of fifty cents per day;
and he shall be allowed for removing convicts to the penitentiary
the following compensation, to wit: for a single prisoner, thirty
dollars, and for each additional prisoner convicted at the same
term of court, fifteen dollars; and the said sheriff is hereby
required, under penalty of one hundred dollars, to keep a book at
his office or at the county jail, in which he shall keep a record
of the names, ages and the date when received, the offence
charged, the date of discharge and the reasons therefor, of all
persons committed to his custody, which book shall be open to
inspection by all persons interested.

106. He shall be entitled to eight per cent, upon all officers'
fees collected by him.
STALLIONS.

107. The owner of any stallion may enter into a contract with
the owner of any mare pledging the progeny of such mare by
such stallion for the amount of the service money of such stal-
lion; such contract shall be in writing, signed by the respective
parties thereto, and attested by at least one witness, and shall be
recorded in the office of the clerk of the county wherein such
mare is situated, among the records of bills of sale, within twenty
days after its date; and from and after the date of the record
