1678 QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY. [ART. 18.

missioners, shall, upon conviction before any justice of the peace,
be subject to commitment to the county jail, not exceeding ten
days, in default of payment of the fines and costs.

1876, ch. 201.

110. The commissioners shall be especially empowered to
make or pass rules, ordinances, regulations and by-laws prohibit-
ing the use of profane language, drunkenness and fighting, and
to prevent all kinds of stock from running at large within the
corporate limits of the town.

111. All suits at law for the violation of any of the rules,
ordinances, regulations and by-laws of the town, shall be brought
in the name of the commissioners against offending parties; and
all fines recovered in such suits at law, for the breach of any rule,
ordinance, regulation or by-law of the corporation, before any
justice of the peace for Queen Anne's county, shall be collected
by said justice of the peace and paid over to the treasurer of the
board of commissioners within ten days after the collection of
the same.

112. The commissioners are authorized and empowered to
purchase not exceeding two acres of land within one mile of the
limits of the town, whenever funds sufficient shall have accumu-
lated in their hands, over and above the current expenses of the
corporation.

113. They are empowered to open or close, by and with the
concurrence of the county commissioners, any street, lane, alley
or avenue, whenever in their judgment it shall become necessary;
also to erect lamps and provide for the lighting of the same; also
to provide for public water pumps, and also a public pound for
the purpose of impounding trespassing stock, and shall fix the
amount of fine for every head of stock so impounded; and also
to provide that such stock shall be liable for all fines, costs, and
for feeding the same.
