return the person inhabiting said house as the owner or possessor
of such dog or bitch; and any person sending his dog or bitch
from place to place to avoid the said tax shall be liable to pay
double the tax thereon; and every dog or bitch not returned shall
be deemed to have no owner, and shall be killed by the dog col-
lector.

SHERIFF.

214. The sheriff of Anne Arundel county shall be allowed
for keeping and boarding each prisoner committed to the jail of
said county, the sum of forty cents per day, to be levied and col-
lected according to law.

STALLION.

1888, ch. 186, sec. 1.

215. The owner of any stallion may enter into a contract with
the owner of any mare pledging the progeny of such mare by
such stallion for the amount of the service money of such stal-
lion; such contract shall be in writing, signed by the respective
parties thereto, and attested by at least one witness, and shall be
recorded in the office of the clerk of the county wherein such
mare is situated, among the records of bills of sale, within twenty
days after its date; and from and after the date of the record
thereof, and for the space of one year from the date of the foal-
ing of such progeny, the owner of said stallion shall have a lien
upon said progeny for the amount of the service money afore-
said; and if the said owner of said mare, without the consent of
the owner of said stallion first had and obtained in writing, shall
remove such mare or foal out of the county where said contract
is recorded, or shall secrete, destroy or sell the same, he shall
be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon indictment there-
for and conviction thereof, shall be fined or imprisoned, or both,
in the same manner and to the same extent as provided for offen-
ders against the provisions of section 111 of article 27 of
