appointed by him, not to exceed ten per centum on the amount
placed in their hands for collection, and said commissions shall be
levied by the county commissioners and collected by said
collectors.
TOMATOES.

263. The legal weight of tomatoes in Harford county shall be
sixty-two pounds to the bushel, and in all cases where either the
buyer or seller of tomatoes so desires it, they shall be sold by
such weight.
TIDEWATER CANAL.

264. If any person shall wantonly open any gate, wicket or
lock of the Tidewater canal, or wantonly break or injure any lock,
gate, wicket, embankment, wall or other work appertaining to
said canal, he shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon
conviction shall be subject to such fine and imprisonment, or
either, as the court before whom he may be tried shall, in its
discretion, impose, and shall also be adjudged to pay all such
damages to the said canal company as the said company may
have sustained by the injury to its works.

265. If any person navigating said canal shall take or destroy
any fence, rails, wood, timber, grain, grass, or any other thing
belonging to any person having the occupancy of any lands along
the line of the said canal, he shall pay the owner the full value
of the property destroyed, and shall also pay a penalty of twenty
dollars for each offence, to be recovered before a justice of the
peace, in the name of the person injured, as small debts.

266. If any person navigating said canal shall turn his horses
or mules on any of the lands in the vicinity of said canal, without
the consent of the owner or occupier of said lands, he shall be
liable to the penalty imposed by the preceding section, to be
recovered in the same manner.
