55. It shall also be the duty of said clerk to make and keep
a general index of all deeds, conveyances and other papers,
required to be recorded, upon the plan formulated by the
cmmittee appointed under the provisions of the act of 1888,
chapter 323.

COLLECTORS.

56. The bonds of the collectors of Harford county, when
executed and recorded agreeably to law, shall be a lien on the
real estate of the several collectors and their securities in said
county, from the sealing and delivering thereof; provided, that
the lien shall not affect the contingent right of dower of the wife;
of any collector or of any of his sureties.

57. The collectors of taxes in said county shall have all the
powers to collect the county taxes by distress or execution which
they have to collect the State taxes, and the same course of
proceedings shall be pursued.

COUNTY COMMISSIONERS.

58. There shall be five county commissioners for Harford
county.

59. They shall annually appoint a fit and proper person, a
resident of said county, as their clerk, who, before entering upon
the duties of his office, shall execute a bond to the State of
Maryland, to be approved by them, in the penalty of one thous-
and dollars, conditioned for the true and faithful performance of
the duties of his office.

60. Said bond shall be recorded in the office of the clerk of
the circuit court for said county.
