1272 GARRETT COUNTY. [ART. 12.

1878, ch. 108.

168. The limits of said town shall begin at a stone marked
eight hundred and forty-one, said stone being the beginning of
military lot number eight hundred and forty-one, and running
thence north sixty-seven degrees, west one hundred perches, south
twenty-three degrees, west two hundred perches, south sixty,
eeven degrees, east ten perches, to the summit of the Hoop-pole
ridge; thence with the summit of said ridge south sixty-seven
degrees, east one hundred perches, north twenty-three degrees,
east one hundred and seventeen perches, thence to the place
of beginning; the commissioners of the town may make
such alterations in the corporate limits as they may deem proper,
and cause the same to bo surveyed and the boundaries thereof to
be established, and a record thereof to be filed amongst the
records of the corporation.

169. The male citizens of the town of Oakland, of twenty-one
years of age and upwards, who have resided therein for six months
next preceding thereto, shall elect by ballot, on the third Monday
in April in every second year, accounting from the year eighteen
hundred and eighty six, one person residing in said town to be
mayor of said town, and to serve as such for the term of two
years, and until his successor is duly elected and qualified; and
the citizens aforesaid shall also elect on said third Monday in
April in every year, three persons to be members of the council
of said town, and who shall have resided in said town for at least
one year prior to said election; and said members shall serve for
the term of two years and until their successois are elected and
qualified; and the six persons thus elected shall constitute the
council for the ensuing year; and said members of the council .
shall receive the sum of one dollar for each day they may be ia
session or attending to their public duties; provided, the entire
sum paid to a member in any one year shall not exceed twenty-
four dollars.

170. The corporate authorities of said town, at their regular
meeting in the month of March, shall appoint, for the purpose of
holding said election, three judges of election and tw,o clerks; and
