1230 GARRETT COUNTY. [ART. 12.

shall annually levy upon the assessable property of the county, a
tax sufficient to pay the interest on said bonds, and the principal
thereof, as the same shall fall due.

1874, ch. 346. 1884, ch. 168.

40. The interest on said bonds shall be received by the

collector in payment of the county taxes; and the bonds issued
under the act of 1874, chapter 346, shall be exempt from all

county taxation.

1884, ch. 243.

41. Whenever it shall become necessary to sell any land in

Garrett county, because of the non-payment of county taxes due
thereon, it shall and may be lawful for the county commissioners
to purchase said lands, or such part thereof as may be necessary,
to the amount of said taxes, and to hold and lease the same for
such a length of time as may be necessary to discharge the said
taxes, interest and costs; and if the sum realized from said lease
shall not in three years pay and discharge said taxes, interest and
costs, or if the owner of said land shall not in three years pay and
discharge said taxes, interest and costs, they are authorized to sell
and convey said lands, by a good and sufficient deed, which shall
pass a good title to the property so sold, as against the person
owning said lands, upon the ratification of said sale by the circuit

court; provided, said commissioners shall first give the notice and
make the sale according to the law regulating the sale of land by
the sheriff, under a writ of fieri facias.

COUNTY SEAT.

42. The town of Oakland shall be the county seat of Garrett

county.

COUNTY TREASURER.

1888, ch. 615.

43. The county commissioners of Garrett county, on the third
Tuesday in April of every second year, or as soon as may be
thereafter, shall appoint from among the residents of said county
a competent person county treasurer for said county, who shall
