or removing the draw, to all vessels which may approach said
bridge for the purpose of passing through the same; and said
bridge-keeper for his services shall receive such compensation as
the county commissioners shall think just and proper, to be pro-
vided for in the annual levy.

101. There shall be appointed annually by the county com-
missioners some competent person to act as bridge-keeper of the.
bridge over the Patapsco river, provided for in the act of 1876,
chapter 376, whose duty it shall be to attend to the opening and
closing of the draw in said bridge when required, and also to at-
tend to such other duties in regard to keeping said bridge in safe
and proper condition for public travel as may be required; and.
the said bridge-keeper shall receive for his services such compen-
sation as the county commissioners of Anne Arundel county shall
think just and proper, to be provided for in their annual levy.

BROOKLYN.

1886, ch. 95. .

102. The county commissioners are required on the first day
of May in every other year, accounting from the year 1886, to
appoint two policemen for the better protection of persons and
property in Brooklyn, and shall arm and equip said policemen
and make such rules and regulations for their proper government,
and discipline as they may deem best to promote their efficiency.

103. It shall be the duty of said policemen at all times of the-
day and night to preserve the public peace, prevent crime, and
protect the rights of persons and property, and to arrest all
offenders against the laws of the State, and to take such offenders
to the nearest justice of the peace for said county, and to this
end they shall have all the power and authority of county con-
stables.

104. The pay of each policeman shall be one dollar and fifty
cents per day; all pay rolls to be made out and certified as re-
quired by the county commissioners.
