or light dredges; and said examiner, as soon as notified and paid
two dollars and traveling expenses, if any, by the managing owner
of said boats, shall proceed to examine the same, and shall report,
without unnecessary delay, in writing, under oath, to said clerk,,
and his report shall be filed in the clerk's office; if the report
states the boat contains dunnage or contained dunnage when
measured by custom-house measurer, the said clerk shall not issue
a license for said boat to take or catch oysters with scrapes or light
dredges, but the owner may remove all of said dunnage, and again
have said boat remeasured by the proper custom-house measurer,
and examined by the examiner; and if under ten tons, and if all
other requirements and conditions prescribed in the two succeed-
ing sections shall be complied with, the clerk shall issue a license
for said boat.

255. The clerk of the circuit court for Dorchester county,
upon the application of the managing owner, who has been a
resident of said county for twelve months next preceding such
application, and to no other person, shall issue a license to such
resident, to employ his boat of a capacity of ten tons or under in
taking or catching oysters with scrapes or dredges in the waters
named, which license shall hold good for one season only, and
shall authorize the catching of oysters from the first day of Oc-
tober to the first day of April, inclusive, on which day the license
shall expire; but it shall be lawful for the owner of any such
licensed boat to transfer this license to a bona fide resident pur-
chaser of said boat; which license, when transferred, shall entitle
said vendee, after he has taken before the clerk the oath or affirma-
tion required of the vendor, to all the rights and privileges of said
vendor; the clerk shall endorse the date and name of the vendee
upon said license, and receive from said vendee the sum of twenty
cents; every license shall state the name and residence of the per-
son to whom the same is granted, the name, number and tonnage
of the boat, if over five tons by custom-house measurement; and
every owner of a boat shall pay two dollars per ton for every ton
said boat shall measure; provided, that all boats measuring less
than five tons shall pay eight dollars for said license.
