For injuring
water works.
|
any person who shall designedly injure the said water
works, or any part thereof, or obstruct the passage of
the water therein shall, for every offence, forfeit the
sum of twenty dollars, to be recovered in the manner
and for the use mentioned above; and if any person,

For using water
without license
|
being first duly cautioned, shall use or in any manner
meddle with the water in said water works, whether
obtained from hydrant or otherwise, such person not
being a water-renter at the time, or licensed by said
town, he shall forfeit the sum of five dollars, to be
recovered and applied as directed above.

Corporation
may borrow
money.
|
346. The burgess and commissioners of said town,
or a majority of them, for the purpose of carrying out
the provisions of this act, may borrow a sum of money
not exceeding in amount three thousand, at the lawful
rate of interest; and said burgess and commissioners
|

Water board.
|
shall constitute a water board, who shall have power
to regulate said water works as may seem to them best
for the interest of the inhabitants of said town, and
may hold a regular meeting one day every month for
the transaction of the regular business of the board,
for which services they shall receive not more than one
dollar per day.
|
It is further enacted that this act shall take effect from the date of its passage, pro-
vided, the sense of the people of said town be taken on the question of its adoption or
rejection at the next annual election for burgess and commissioners of said town, at
which election those persons entitled to vote for burgess and commissioners of said
town, shall vote on said question by expressing in writing or on printed form the
words, " for the act authorizing water works, " or " against the act authorizing water
works, " as the case may be; and thereupon, it shall be the duty of said burgess and
commissioners to count the ballots cast, and if it shall appear to them that a majority
of said ballots have been cast for the said act, then it shall be the duty of the burgess
and commissioners to carry out the provisions of this act, and if it shall appear that
a majority of the votes so cast are against said act, then the same shall be void and
of no effect.
