1370, c. 402 repeals section 85 and re-enacts the same with amendments as follows:

cil, when and
how elected.

SEC. 85. The citizens of each ward qualified as pre-
scribed in the eighty-third section of this article, and
having resided in the ward wherein they offer to vote,
six months next preceding the election, shall annually
on the last Monday of February, elect one member for
the common council of said city.

1370, c. 154 repeals and re-enacts sections 101, 102, 105 and 145, as follows:

appointed.

101. They may provide by ordinance for the appoint-
ment of one or more constables, who shall, within the
police limits of the corporation, have all the powers
possessed by constables in this state, except as to the
collection of debts, and the said constables shall receive

a salary to be fixed by ordinance annually, and shall
not be entitled to receive any fees, costs or other emolu-
ments.

Other officers,
how appointed.
|
102. All officers of the corporation not herein named,
' who shall be deemed necessary to execute the laws and
ordinances of the corporation, shall be appointed in such
manner, as shall by ordinance be directed; and they

and all officers herein named, shall receive such salaries,
as shall be fixed from time to time by ordinance of the
corporation.

Salary of mayor
|
105. The mayor shall, in lieu of fees, receive an
annual salary to be fixed by ordinance of the corpora-
tion, and every ordinance fixing such compensation
shall continue in force for one year and no longer.

Disposition of
fines, &c.
|
145. All fines, fees and costs shall go to the cor-
poration and shall be appropriated as directed [by]
ordinance.
