3. That any person or persons, [who] by reason of gross neglect or inattention, shall
violate the second section this act, shall be fined twenty-five dollars for each and every
such offence, and pay all damages that may be done to the said bridge.

Pay of crier and
bailiffs.
|
SEC. 53. Sub-Sec. 1. The county commissioners of
Cecil county are required to levy in advance a sum
of money sufficient to pay the crier and bailiffs of the
circuit court of Cecil county, and the said county com-
missioners shall pay said crier and bailiffs upon the
presentation of the certificate of the clerk of said court
of their attendance and service.

COURT HOUSE AND JAIL.
1870, c, 191 enacts the following:

1. The county commissioners of Cecil county are authorized and empowered, in
their discretion, to build a new county jail for said county, or to repair or re-build
the old one, and to repair or re-model the present court house for said county.
2. The county commissioners of said county are authorized to issue proposals and
make contracts for repairing or re-building said old jail, or for the building of a new
one, as they may deem most proper, and to repair or re-model the present court
house, and to make such levy or levies on the assessable property of said county as
nay be necessary to carry out the provisions of this act.
3. The said county commissioners of Cecil county are authorized, if, in their dis-
cretion, they deem it proper, to sell and convey the present jail property in the town
of Elkton, and to purchase other lands for the use of said county, on which to build
a new jail and the necessary out-buildings.
4. The said county commissioners of Cecil county, or a majority of them, to enable
them to carry into effect the first section of this act, are authorized and empowered,
if in their discretion they deem it expedient and proper, to issue, on the credit of
said county, bonds to an amount not exceeding forty thousand dollars, or so much
thereof as may be necessary, to carry into effect the first section of this act; the
said bonds to be redeemable on or before the first day of July, eighteen hundred and
eighty-five, at the discretion of said county commissioners, with legal interest, pay-
able semi-annually, and the faith and assessable property of said county are pledged
for the payment and redemption of principal and interest of said bonds.
5. The said bonds shall be exempt from county and municipal taxation.
6. All acts or parts of acts inconsistent with this act are repealed.
