242. The county commissioners of Baltimore county
may contract with the county surveyor, or some other
person, as they may deem proper, for the surveying,
platting and laying off of the district or territory men-
tioned and described in the first section of this act, and
the cost thereof shall be levied upon the taxable prop-
erty of said county by said county commissioners, and
be collected by them in the same manner as other taxes
are now collected in Baltimore county.

243. The street commissioners to be appointed under
the provisions of this act shall be entitled to and receive
the same compensation for their services as is now al-
lowed by law to the county commissioners of Balti-
more county; a majority of said street commissioners
to constitute a quorum for the transaction of business,
and the county commissioners are authorized to appoint

persons to fill all vacancies that may occur by reason of
death, resignation or refusal of any of said street com-
missioners [to] serve.

244. Whenever any street, lane, avenue or alley
shall hereafter be condemned, laid out and opened
under the provisions of this act, the owners of a ma-
jority of feet fronting on any such street, lane, avenue
or alley, shall determine the nature and character of
the material to be used in the construction thereof.

1870, c 186 entitled an act to make valid the acts and deeds of the road supervi-
sors in Baltimore county, acting under the law passed at the January session of
eighteen hundred and sixty-eight, chapter four hundred and eleven, approved thir-
tieth of March, eighteen hundred and sixty-eight, enacts:
1. That the several local boards of road supervisors in the first, second, third,
fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh, twelfth and thirteenth
road districts of Baltimore county, are authorized and directed to collect the amounts
levied for road and bridge purposes in their respective districts for the year eighteen
