ROADS.
1870, c. 427 adds the following:

234. From and after the passage of this act it shall
not be lawful for any person, with or without the con-
sent of the county commissioners, to erect a gate upon
the public roads of Anne Arundel and Prince George's
counties where there is not now a gate already erected;
and whenever a new road shall be opened as a public
highway in either of said counties, the supervisor of the
district shall cause all gates to be removed therefrom.

235. Any person who shall violate the provisions, of
the preceding section shall pay a fine of twenty dollars,
to be recovered by action of debt before a justice of the
peace in the name of the county commissioners, to be
applied to the road fund of the county, and any super-
visor who shall fail or neglect to perform his duties
under the provisions of this act shall forfeit and pay
a fine of twenty dollars, to be recovered in the same
manner and to be applied to said fund.

1370, c. 192 repeals 1868, c. 299 so far as the same relates to Anne Arundel county,
and enacts the following:
236. The county commissioners of Anne Arundel
county shall, during the month of May, eighteen hun-
dred and seventy, or as soon thereafter as may be, lay
out said county into convenient road districts, not to
exceed thirty for the whole county, and shall appoint
one supervisor of roads in each district, who shall be a
resident of the. road district for which he may be ap-
pointed, and who shall serve one year and until his
successor shall be appointed.

237. Whenever any person shall refuse to accept the
appointment of supervisor, fifty days after notification
thereof, he shall pay a fine of twenty dollars, to be
recovered by action of debt, before a justice of the
peace, in the name of the county commissioners of said
