days notice, and fine the said offender or offenders a
sum not less than five nor more than twenty-five dol-
lars for each and every offence, and the said justice of
of the peace shall pay over one-half of said fines and
forfeitures to the informer, and the other half to the
school board of said county or city.

1870, c. 475 appropriates the sum of seven thousand dollars to pay the various
mechanics and others the amounts due them for work and labor done, and materials
furnished for the construction of an iron steam vessel for the state of Maryland, for
the use of the oyster police force.

18. Employment of convicts not to make tin-cans purchasing agent.
1870, c. 141 repeals and re-enacts section 18 to read as follows:

SEC. 18. The directors may enter into such contracts
for the employment of the convicts in the penitentiary,
and for the sale of the manufactures in the institution
as they may deem proper, but shall not enter into any
