thence by straight line to Mrs. Frances Hazelhurst's
gate, and thence to the place of beginning.

 

3. The inhabitants of said city, qualified to vote
for delegates to the general assembly, who are now
residents within the corporate limits as described in
the preceding section, shall on the second Tuesday of
April next, between the hours of twelve o'clock at
noon and six o'clock in the evening, elect one per-
son at least twenty -five years of age as mayor of
said city, and they shall elect six persons, at least
twenty-one years of age, members of the common
council of said city, all of whom shall be residents

within the limits of said city; and no one shall be
eligible to the office of mayor of said city, unless
he be a freeholder within the corporate limits afore-
said, and the said mayor and council so elected, shall
hold their office for and during the space of two
years from the day of their election, and until their
successors are duly elected and qualified, and that
from and after the said first election as herein provi-
ded for, the inhabitants of said city qualified to vote
for delegates to the general assembly, who shall have
resided within the corporate limits of said city six
months prior to the day of election, shall biennially,
at such place and time as shall be designated by the
mayor and common council, between the hours of
twelve o'clock at noon and six o'clock in the even-
ing, to elect one person at least twenty-five years of
age, and who has resided in said city two years pre-
vious to said election, mayor of said city, and six
persons at least twenty-one years of age and who
have resided in said city one year previous to said
election, members of the common council, and no
one shall be eligible to the office of mayor of said
city unless he be a freeholder, or leaseholder, within
the corporate limits of said city.
