53. Every commissioner before entering upon the
duties of his office, shall take an oath before some
justice of the peace that he will diligently and faith-
fully, according to the best of his judgment per-
form the duties of commissioner of the said town,
without favor, partiality or prejudice, and a certifi-
cate of such qualification shall be returned by the
justice to the commissioners, to be filed and recorded

among their proceedings; they shall meet at the
court house in Denton, or at such other public place
in said town as shall be previously notified, on the
second Monday of every month after their election,
and as much oftener by adjournment as they shall
judge necessary; they shall at their first meeting

54. Before the bailiff shall enter upon the duties
of his office he shall make oath before a justice of
peace of Caroline county, that he will faithfully and
impartially perform the duties of bailiff and constable
within said town, according to the best of his skill
