ing hemp, cable, anchors, dye-woods, bark, etc., two
cents per hundred pounds.

1864, c. 334 amends and re-enacts sections 420 and 422 as follows:

420. One of the scales or apparatus for weighing,
shall be placed in the western section of the city, and
the other in the eastern, but the governor may upon
petition, change the location of either, whenever and
as often as he may deem proper, at the expense of

requested to select and commission three discreet
persons, two of them residents of Baltimore city,
and one a resident of Baltimore county, whose duty
it shall be to sell the lot of ground and premises
situate at the intersection of Franklin street and
Pennsylvania avenue, now occupied by the state's
scales, and with the consent and approbation of the
governor, to purchase a lot of sufficient size, nearer
the suburbs, for the purpose of a hay market; on
which they shall cause to be erected by contract,
a suitable office for the use of the inspector, to
which shall be transferred the scales, now in use in
the western section, or the commissioners may, in
their discretion, sell the old scales, and purchase
and erect new scales at the new location, and the
lot shall be enclosed and paved with rubble stones,
for the protection of the hay and straw and the

public convenience, and in addition to the charge
now authorized by law for the use of the state hay
scales, the inspector shall be entitled to demand and
receive fifteen cents for each and every load of hay
or straw, which shall remain half an hour on said
premises after the weighing thereof, but shall be
removed before night, and thirty cents for each and
every load which shall be left on said premises until
the next morning; before proceeding to make sale
