CHAPTER 849
(House Bill 280)
AN ACT concerning
Local Government and Referendum Petitions
FOR the purpose of altering certain requirements
for signers of certain petitions and persons who attest
to the authenticity of the signature;
providing that the
General Assembly shall prescribe by law the form of
certain petitions, the manner for authentication and
other administrative procedures; generally relating to
procedures relating to certain petitions; and
submitting this amendment to the qualified voters of
the State of Maryland for their adoption or rejection.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, (Three-fifths of all the members elected to each
of the two Houses concurring), That it be proposed that
section(s) of the Constitution of Maryland read(s) as
follows:

-4-The word "Petition" as used in this Article means
one or more sheets written or printed, or partly written and
partly printed.[; "Signature" means the signature of a
registered voter written by himself in his own handwriting
(and not by his mark), together with the ward or district
