chief clerk of the Traffic Court. He or any clerical employees designated
for that purpose shall have the power to fix the amount of and accept bail
and he shall perform such other duties as may be assigned to him by the
chief magistrate. There shall be an Assistant Supervisor who shall receive
a salary of $2,400 per annum. In addition to the duties which may be
assigned said Assistant Supervisor by the chief magistrate, he shall act in
the absence of the Supervisor and shall at such time possess the same author-
ity as the Supervisor.

221. (Court Clerks.) Three of said clerical assistants shall be desig-
nated court clerks and shall receive salaries of $2,300 each per annum, and
shall be assigned by the chief magistrate to duties in the court rooms when
sessions of the Court are being held, and to such other duties as the chief
magistrate shall prescribe.

222. (Senior Clerks.) Four of said clerical assistants shall be desig-
nated senior clerks, who shall receive salaries of $2,080 each per annum,
and who shall perform such duties as the chief magistrate shall prescribe.

Any of the present employees of the Traffic Court appointed by the
Police Commissioner or Board of Police Commissioners from the eligible
list of the Station House or Headquarters clerks and who are participants
in, or contributors to, the Police Department Pension Fund, if retained by
the Chief Magistrate as clerical assistants, shall continue to be treated as
Police Department employees for the purpose of the Police Department
Pension Fund and retain all rights and privileges in said Fund to the
same extent as enjoyed prior to May 3, 1939; nothing herein contained
shall affect the status or pension rights of former employees of the Traffic
Court now on retirement.

1939, ch. 433, sec. 205L.

223. (Clerks.) There shall be nine clerical assistants who shall be
designated clerks, four of whom shall receive salaries of $1,200 per annum
and five of whom shall receive salaries of $900 per annum, said clerks to be
appointed by the chief magistrate and their salaries set by him, subject
to the approval of the Governor as provided in the State budget. The chief
magistrate shall have the power to readjust the salaries of said clerks in his
discretion within the limits herein set.

All clerical assistants provided for in this sub-title shall be appointed by
the Chief Magistrate from lists prepared by the Board of Police Examiners
in the same manner that candidates for the Baltimore City Police Force
are now appointed.

The dockets and records of arrests and convictions and all other records
shall be kept by the clerks in such form and under such plan as may jointly
be agreed upon by the chief magistrate of the Traffic Court and the Commis-
sioner of Motor Vehicles.

The four Police Lieutenants now assigned to duty in the Traffic Court
shall be relieved of said duty provided that they are returned to active duty
in the Police Department with the rank of Lieutenant; and the number of
Police Lieutenants now fixed by law for Baltimore City is hereby increased
by four to accommodate said Lieutenants hereby returned to active duty
in the Police Department.
