ELECTIONS 1493

in large clear type, on separate cards, to be called "cards of instruction,"
and said boards of supervisors shall furnish twelve of the same with ballots
for use in each election precinct, on the morning of said election; the said
supervisors of election shall cause to be conspicuously posted in each polling
place said cards of instructions, and one of said cards of instructions shall
be fixed in each booth or voting compartment; not less than three of said
cards shall be posted outside of the guard-rails, and not less than three of
each of same shall be securely and conspicuously posted on the outside of
the building in which the polls are held before the balloting begins, in such
positions that the same may be easily examined by the public; it shall also
be the duty of the several boards of supervisors of elections, on the morning
of said election, to cause to be conspicuously posted in each polling place
and in each voting booth of each polling place, separate tickets or lists con-
taining the names of the candidates of each political party, with a designa-
tion of the several offices for which they are candidates, so that voters may
thereby be aided in selecting the candidates for whom they wish to vote
and in marking the official ballot accordingly. This section shall apply to
Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Dorchester, Kent, Prince George's, Queen
Anne's, St. Mary's, Somerset, Talbot and Worcester Counties.

170. The Boards of Supervisors of Elections for the several counties
shall have power to employ an attorney, who shall also be the attorney
for the judges of ejection, whether acting as such or as registration officers,
to receive such compensation as shall be allowed by the county commis-
sioners upon the approval of the circuit court, except that the attorney to
the Board of Supervisors of Elections of Wicomico County shall receive
an annual salary of three hundred dollars ($300) payable on the order
of the County Commissioners of Wicomico County in equal quarterly in-
stallments, provided, however, that in the event of special elections or
special services rendered, the Board of County Commissioners shall allow
such additional compensation as may by said County Commissioners be
deemed commensurate with such special services rendered.

Services of counsel held to be such as county commissioners were required to pay
for under this section. Hence, mandamus will issue. Anne Arundel County v. Melvin,

171. The Board of Supervisors of Election of Anne Arundel County
shall annually on the first day of June in each year appoint some practicing
member of the bar of Anne Arundel County to act as general counsel for
said board, and for the officers of registration and Judges of Election,
appointed by them, in all matters and proceedings pertaining to their duties
and to appear for and defend said Board of Supervisors, officers of registra-
tion and judges of election at the hearing of all petitions and suits which
may be filed or brought for or against them under the provisions of Article
33 of the Code of Public General Laws of Maryland, title "Elections," or
involving their rights and duties thereunder. Eor his services as such
general counsel he shall receive an annual salary of four hundred dollars,
to be paid in equal quarterly installments by the County Commissioners of
Anne Arundel County, and he shall not receive any other compensation,
emolument, pay, fee, appearance fee or recompense of any kind whatsoever.
