ordinance. The Harbor Engineer shall perform such other duties as may
hereafter be prescribed by ordinances not inconsistent with this Charter.

INSPECTOR OF BUILDINGS.

89. The Inspector of Buildings shall be the head of the fourth sub-
department of Public Improvements, and shall be the same officer whose
appointment is provided for herein in the Department of Public Safety.
The duties he shall perform in this department and sub-department shall
be the superintendence of the construction and repairing of all buildings
built by the city, unless otherwise provided by ordinances. He shall re-
ceive no additional pay for his services rendered in this department. He
shall perform such other duties in this department as may be required of
him by ordinances not inconsistent with this Charter.

DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC PARKS AND SQUARES.
1906. ch. 416.
90. There shall be a Department of Public Parks and Squares of the
Mayor and City Council of Baltimore, and head of said department shall
consist of a Board of Park Commissioners composed of five members to
serve without pay, appointed by the Mayor in the manner prescribed in
Section 25 of this Charter, one of whom shall be the President thereof,
and shall be so designated by the Mayor. Their term of office shall be
five years, one of them to retire at the end of every year at which time
his successor shall be appointed. Said Board shall elect a secretary, who
shall be paid a salary of two thousand one hundred dollars ($2,100) per
annum, payable monthly, and he shall be the clerk of said Board, and
shall perform such duties as may be prescribed by said Board. The said
Board shall perform such other duties as may be prescribed by ordinances
not inconsistent with this Charter.

91. The Board of Park Commissioners shall have charge and control
of all public parks, squares, boulevards leading to parks, springs and
monuments belonging to and controlled by or in the custody of the Mayor
and City Council of Baltimore; and it shall have power and authority to
rent or lease property, which it may acquire on behalf of the city, whether
bv purchase, condemnation or otherwise, at such reasonable rentals, and
for such terms as to the said Board may seem proper.
