ants, aides, clerks and stenographers and other office and field help as
may be necessary for the proper conduct of the Bureau. The compen-
sation of all such appointees shall be subject to approval by the Board
of Estimates and shall be paid as provided in the Ordinance of Estimates.
The Bureau of Transportation shall have the following rights, powers,
duties, obligations and functions, provided that nothing herein shall be
construed to apply to the motor vehicle equipment of the fire or police
departments:

(1) Charge of all supplies and equipment used for transportation by
all officers, boards, commissions, departments, bureaus or other agencies
of the City Government.

(2) The maintenance and operation of all vehicles owned by the City,
whether held for general service or assigned to any officer, board, com-
mission, department, bureau or agency thereof, with the exception of tool
cars without motive power.

(3) The assignment of such vehicular equipment to officers, boards,
commissions, departments, bureaus or other agencies of the City Govern-
ment, and the maintenance of such hauling and passenger service as may
be required to meet the needs of the several agencies of the City Gov-
ernment.

(4) The inspection of all City vehicular equipment and the keeping
of proper records of the manner in which such equipment is handled, and
the care exercised in its operation.

(5) Jurisdiction over the hiring of vehicles for hauling and passenger
service needed by any agency of the City Government.

(6) Supervision over all allowances made for the operation of pri-
vately owned vehicles used by City employes on City Work.

(7) The formulation of specifications for and standardization of all
vehicular equipment and the accessories, supplies, materials, etc., inci-
dent to the operation and maintenance of such equipment.

(8) The repair of all vehicular equipment in conjunction with the
Bureau of Mechanical-Electrical Service, as may be determined by the
Chief Engineer.

(9) The preparation of such information as may be needed by the
Board of Estimates, or any other agency of the City Government, for its
guidance in disposing of all equipment.

(10) The maintenance and operation of such garages, depots and
shops as may be assigned to it by the Chief Engineer.

The Bureau of Transportation shall perform such other duties and
exercise such other powers as may be required from time to time by ordi-
nance of the Mayor and City Council, subject, however, to the power and
authority conferred upon the Chief Engineer by the provisions of this
Charter.
