and balances, which shall be recorded in the minutes; and all money so
received by the treasurer shall be paid out only upon his check drawn in
obeyance to written order or voucher of the town clerk, approved in writ-
ing by the Mayor. Before entering upon the duties of his office he shall
take and subscribe the oath hereinbefore provided for and shall give cor-
porate bond to the State of Maryland, in the penalty of not less than
twenty thousand dollars, the premium on same to be paid by the said
town, to be approved by the Mayor and Council and conditioned for the
good and faithful discharge by him of all the duties appertaining to his
said office as town treasurer of Pocomoke City imposed upon him by the
charter, the ordinances and the requirements of the Mayor and Council;
and said bond shall be recorded among the general records of the town
and also in the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Worcester
County, and there it shall be retained, and his books shall be subject to
the inspection of the Mayor and Councilmen, and the Mayor and Coun-
cilmen may at any time cause said books to be audited. Failure to approve
the bond of the town treasurer, or to record the same as above required
shall not effect the validity of the bond nor the liability of any body cor-
porate executing the same, and a certified copy of the record may be
offered in evidence as well as the original.

209. The policemen shall each be vested and clothed with all the
power and authority of a constable, and anyone resisting them, or any
of them, in the discharge of their duty shall be liable upon conviction in
the Circuit Court for Worcester County, or before any Justice of the
Peace of said County, in the same manner and to the same extent as if
he had resisted a constable. One of said policemen shall be designated and
named by the said Mayor and Council as chief of police and all other
policemen of said town shall be subject to his orders and the said chief
of police shall be the executive officer of the Mayor and Council, and shall
serve, deliver or post any order or notice that under any law or ordinance
of the town or under this charter is required to be served, delivered or
posted; and all returns made by the said chief of police or any other police-
man of said town to the Mayor, the Council or the Mayor and Council
shall have the same force and effect, and be entitled to and receive the
same credence as a return of a sheriff to any process in the Circuit Courts
of this State. He shall superintend all work upon the streets, lanes and
alleys of the town and shall assist the Mayor in the enforcement of the
ordinances, and to that end it shall be his duty to make complaint to some
Justice of the Peace against any and every person violating any ordinance
of the town.

It shall be the duty of the policemen and each of them as peace offi-
cers to maintain and preserve peace, good order and good conduct within
the limits of said town and among all persons found therein; they shall
repress, prevent and put down disorderly conduct and all disturbances of
the public peace, breaches of the peace, gambling of all kinds, the unlawful
