to the State of Maryland in the full and just sum of one thousand dollars,
conditioned for the faithful performance of his duties as Road Engineer
and accounting for all monies that may come in his hands under the pro-
visions of Sections 234-251 of this Article; said bond to be secured by a
Fidelity Company and on failure to give such bond approved by the
President of the Board of County Commissioners, his appointment shall
be void and the County Commissioners may proceed to appoint another
Road Engineer as herein provided for, and the expenses of said bond to
be paid by the County Commissioners of Wicomico County.

238. The County Road Engineer shall reside in Wicomico County dur-
ing the term of his office, and shall have entire charge, control and super-
vision of the working, repairing and reconstructing of the public roads,
bridges and drains in Wicomico County, and shall make all specifications
for the building of new roads, roads and bridges.
He shall employ such help, teams and implements as he may deem neces-
sary for the working, repairing and reconstructing of said roads, bridges
and drains, to be paid by the County Commissioners. He shall have charge
and control of all teams, carts, wagons and other machinery and imple-
ments which may be purchased by the County Commissioners for the use
of said roads. He shall not work out or expend on the roads, bridges and
drains of said county a greater amount in any one fiscal year than the
amount levied by the County Commissioners for that purpose, without
obtaining the permission in writing of said Commissioners. He shall
appear before the Commissioners at their first meeting in each and every
month, or as often as requested by the County Commissioners, and make
a statement to them of the work done and money expended. He shall
examine and certify to the correctness of all bills and accounts for any
work done or materials furnished on any of the public roads, bridges or
drains in Wicomico County before the same shall be paid by the County
Commissioners; and said County Commissioners shall make no payment
until such accounts have been certified by said engineer, and the said
County Commissioners may approve or reject in a whole or in part any
such account.
He shall make out annually, in writing, a detailed report to the Com-
missioners of all work done on the county roads, bridges and drains for
the year, showing the amount of expenditures in each election district and
on each road in the county; which report shall be made on or before the
15th day of June for the year ending on the 31st day of the preceding
May; and in making of said report he may be allowed the services of a
stenographer and typewriter, to be paid by the County Commissioners a
sum not to exceed twenty-five dollars for his services. The said County
Road Engineer shall not be interested in any firm or corporation from
which anything shall be purchased for the use of said roads, bridges or
trains, nor receive any commissions on said purchase, or interested directly
