4964 ARTICLE 22.

WATER.

1906, chs. 34 and 366.

854. The Burgess and Commissioners of Williamsport, Washington

county, Maryland, are hereby authorized and empowered to enter into
and make a contract or contracts with any person or persons, corporation
or corporations, for the purpose of supplying water to the citizens of said
town, and for use in case of fire in said town, and the burgess and

commissioners shall have and are hereby vested with power and authority
to levy taxes in addition to the amount now authorized by law, sufficient
to meet the requirements of any contract or contracts executed under the
provision of this section.

1914, ch. 255, sec. 1.

855. If at the special election to be held in the town of Williamsport, in
Washington County, in the State of Maryland, on the first Monday in

June, A. D. 1914, at which election the legal and qualified voters of said
town of Williamsport are to vote on the question* as to whether or not
the Burgess and Commissioners of Williamsport shall borrow money on
the credit of said town, not to exceed Forty Thousand Dollars ($40,000),

and to issue bonds for the payment of the same, for the erection and main-
tenance of water works and electric light, heat and power plant, the
result shall be against the issue of said bonds, then, and in that event, the

said Burgess and Commissioners of Williamsport, in Washington County,
Maryland, are hereby empowered and authorized, if in their judgment
they deem it advisable and expedient so to do, to contract for and to pur-
chase from any person, persons or corporation a supply of water for the
use of the said town and corporation of Williamsport.

1914, ch. 255, sec. 2.

856. The said Burgess and Commissioners of Williamsport, in case
they contract for water for the said corporation of Williamsport, under
the provisions of this Act, shall have full power and authority to grant

unto said person, persons or corporation with whom they make such con-
tract, the right to use the streets and alleys of said town of Williamsport,
for the purpose of laying water pipes and water mains therein, with the

right to dig up said streets and alleys therein for the purpose.

857. If the contract for furnishing water is made under the provisions

of this Act, the said Burgess and Commissioners of Williamsport shall
have full power and authority to do all things necessary for the proper
consummation of said contract, to establish rules and regulations for the
use of said streets and alleys, and to place such restrictions upon the use
thereof, in connection with said water works, as they may deem advisable,
and shall also have the right to establish and provide in said contract the
