following all the conditions of this Act, except on those which provide
for the action of any court, and after making, in addition, the investiga-
tion which the court is directed to make under this Act.

1920, ch. 477, sec. 15.,

392. The action of the County Commissioners of Anne Arundel
County in heretofore granting relief under the provisions of this Act is
hereby ratified and confirmed, and the County Commissioners of said
county are authorized and directed to provide for the payment of the
same and of such applications as shall be subsequently granted under this
Act as amended, and the County Commissioners of said county are hereby
authorized and directed to provide the funds necessary under this Act by
levying such sum. annually as may be necessary or in any other way they
shall determine; provided that the sum expended for this purpose shall
not exceed five thousand dollars in any fiscal year, and in the event of
there being applications in excess of this amount which meet the require-
ments of this Act, the said County Commissioners shall select those re-
garded as most meritorious and necessary so that the total shall not exceed
the said sum of five thousand dollars.

MOTOR BOATS.

1922, ch. 408.

393. It shall be unlawful for any person or persons to operate a boat or
vessel propelled by power supplied by a gasoline or other internal com-
bustion engine, commonly known as a motorboat, upon the waters of the
Severn River between the hours of one A. M. and seven A. M. of any
day, unless said boat or vessel be equipped with a muffler and such muffler
be in serviceable condition and actually in use; provided, however, that in
case of a bona fide breakdown necessitating the operation of said boat or
vessel without a muffler, anyone may operate such boat or vessel to port
or to a safe anchorage. Any person or persons violating the provisions
of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction
thereof shall be fined twenty-five dollars for the first offense and fifty
dollars for the second and each succeeding offense.

394. The Governor is hereby authorized to appoint and commission,
by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, five female notaries
public for Anne Arundel County, in addition to the number now author-
ized by law.
