Said County Commissioners are hereby fully authorized to remove
said dog-catcher at any time for failure to properly perform his duties.

257. The County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County may ap-
point a caretaker and chauffeur for the Volunteer Fire Department, In-
corporated, of Earleigh Heights at a salary of not more than $80.00
(eighty dollars) per month, and they shall fix his term and duties, and
the amount required to defray said salary shall be levied upon the assess-
able property in the Second Precinct of the Third District of Anne Arun-
del County.

1904, ch. 417. 1914 Code, sec. 191.

258. The County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County shall ap-
point one policeman for the protection of persons and property in Anne
Arundel County; such policemen shall be stationed at Eastport in the
Second Election District of said county. The appointment shall be made
immediately after the passage of this Act, and the person so appointed
shall serve until the first day of January, 1906, and until his successor
is duly appointed, and thereafter such appointment shall be made every
two-years thereafter on the first day of January, or as soon thereafter as
possible. The said Commissioners shall have power to suspend such po-
liceman without pay, or remove him at pleasure, and to appoint other-
officers in the place of any removed or suspended. The officer so ap-
pointed shall be subject to all and the same provisions, regulations and
rules as laid down and contained in Chapter 613 of the Acts of Assembly
of 1902.

259. It shall be the duty of said policeman, at all times, to preserve the
public peace, prevent crimes being committed, protect the rights of persons
and property, to arrest all offenders against the laws of the State and to
take such offenders before a justice of the peace in the City of Annapolis,
of said county, and to this end he shall have all the powers and authority of
county constables; and the County Commissioners shall not appoint any
constable to act in such precinct of the Second Election District wherein
said Eastport is located, and such officer so appointed shall perform all
the duties that may be required of him as a county constable, and shall
receive no other fee or pay other than his monthly salary for doing crim-
inal work.
