4208 ARTICLE 18.

CLERK.

178. The clerk of the circuit court shall keep an index of all judg-
ments and decrees on the dockets of said court in the names of all the
parties thereto; he shall be entitled to demand and receive from any per-
son depositing in his office for record any deed or writing relating to the
conveyance or transfer of real estate or personal property, the sum of
five cents for each name appearing as a party to such deed or writing,
for the purpose of continuing the general index of conveyances.

179. He shall be entitled to tax, as part of the plaintiffs' costs in all
judgments or decrees rendered or passed in said court, the sum of five
cents for each name appearing as a party to such judgment or decree,
for the purpose of continuing the general index; and it shall be the duty
of the clerk entering or recording said judgments and decrees, to index
the same as aforesaid.

180. Whenever any of said judgments or decrees are satisfied, it shall
be the duty of the clerk entering said satisfaction, whether on order or
on return of fieri facias, to note the said satisfaction on said indexes where
said judgments and decrees are indexed, in a blank to be left for said
purpose.

181. The Clerk of the Circuit Court for Queen Anne's County be
and he is hereby authorized and empowered to transcribe the docket entries
and judgments in all cases now recorded in the old appearance dockets of
said Court, for the terms commencing with the January Term of the
year eighteen hundred and eighty, and extending to the November Term
of the year nineteen hundred and five, inclusive, to the books in the office
of said Clerk containing the trial dockets of said Court, the said docket
entries and judgments so transcribed to be recorded by said Clerk on the
unused pages in the back of said books for the corresponding years en-
tirely separate and apart from the record of the cases constituting the
"trial docket" now recorded therein, and when so recorded to be desig-
nated and known as the appearance docket of said Court for said respec-
tive terms in precisely the same way as they are now designated and
known on said old appearance dockets. The said Clerk shall continue to
keep on file in his said office the said old appearance dockets.
