4052 ARTICLE 17.

1920, ch. 548.

886. The voters of any election district may provide for a special elec-
tion district road fund by bonds or by an annual levy to be spent wholly
within said election district for road and bridge purposes in the following
manner: Upon the petition of fifty or more registered voters within any
election district addressed to the Board of Supervisors of Elections,
setting forth that they desire the voters of said district to vote upon the
question as to whether or not there shall be a special district levy for road
and bridge purposes, and shall further set forth in said petition the annual
tax levy to be made which shall not exceed twenty-five cents on the one
hundred dollars and the number of years to same is to be levied, which
shall not exceed ten years or the amount of bonds desired to be issued,
which shall not exceed five per cent, of the assessed value of the property
within said district, and provided said petition is filed forty days before
any general election, the Board of Supervisors of Elections shall cause to be
printed on the ballot for such election district at the next general election
the proposition presented by such petition in substantially the following
form : "For road tax of........ cents for........ years" and "Against

road tax of.........cents for..........years," or if said petition be for the

issuance of bonds "For $........ road bonds" and "Against $........

road bonds," using the figures set forth in the petition and providing a
box opposite each line on the ballot as in the case of constitutional amend-
ments. Not more than one proposition shall be presented at any general
election and if more than one petition is filed with said Supervisors for
any election district that proposition presented by the petition fist filed
shall be printed upon the ballot. The sample ballots relating to any such
election district shall have printed upon them the substance of the petition
as constitutional amendments are now required to be printed upon said
ballots. The vote on said proposition shall be canvassed and returned as
the vote on constitutional amendments are now canvassed and returned,
except that the Board of Supervisors of Elections after final canvass shall
certify the result of said vote to the County Commissioners of Prince
George's County. If the result of such vote as so certified shall show a
majority in favor of a special tax levy the County Commissioners shall
annually thereafter levy against the property assessed for purposes of taxa-
tion within said election distict the amount so voted upon and for the
number of years so voted upon; and if the result of such vote as so certified
show a majority in favor of a special bond issue the County Commissioners
shall forthwith borrow upon the faith and credit of said county the sum so
voted upon and shall issue bonds over their hands and seals maturing at
such time and in such denominations, either registered or coupon, as they
may determine bearing interest at a rate not exceeding six per cent., pay-
able semi-annually and shall sell the same at public auction to the highest
bidder for cash, after due advetisement in such papers and for such time
as they may determine. In order to pay the interest on said bonds and to
provide for the payment at maturity the County Commissioners shall
annually levy against the assessable property within such election district
