or offices so tied. The terms of all elective officers shall begin on the first
Monday in June next succeeding the election. The Mayor of said town
shall serve for one year, and until his successor qualifies, councilmen for
two years and the treasurer for two years and until his or their successor
or successors shall qualify.

869. There shall be elected at the first election of said town and every
two years hereafter a treasurer of said town who shall have charge of the
collection of all taxes and revenues of said town, and who, upon the order
of the Mayor and Common Council, shall pay out monies of said town.
Said treasurer shall, before assuming the duties of his office, give bond
for the faithful discharge of his duties as such treasurer in such sum as
may be directed by the said Mayor and Common Council, provided, how-
ever, that said bond shall in no instance be less than $2,000.00. In the
event of the' death, resignation or removal of said treasurer from said
town the Mayor and Common Council shall have the right and power to
select a successor who shall serve for the unexpired term.

870. The Mayor of said town shall be the executive officer thereof and
have all the rights and power and authority of a justice of the peace of
Prince George's County within said town limits and shall have all the
powers necessary to secure enforcement of all ordinances of said town
Said Mayor shall preside at all Council meetings but shall have no vote
with the Councilmen in said meetings except in case or cases of a tie vote,
in which case the Mayor shall have the right to vote. Upon the death,
resignation or removal from the corporate limits hereinbefore set forth of
the said Mayor, a Mayor shall be elected in the stead of such Mayor to
serve until the Mayor chosen at the next election shall qualify.
The death, resignation or removal from the town limits shall ipso facto
disqualify the Mayor or any other elective or appointive official of said
town.
COMMON COUNCIL.
1920, ch. 731, sec. 8.
871. The Common Council of Riverdale shall meet publicly at least
once a month, and all of its meetings shall be public, and the Mayor for all
purposes, except as hereinbefore noted, shall constitute one of the council.
A majority shall constitute a quorum and a quorum shall be necessary to
transact business. If a vacancy exists in the Council, the Mayor and
Council shall fill the same for the unexpired term. The said Council
shall be the sole judge of the qualifications of its own members. They may
provide by ordinance for contested elections, they shall have the power to
appoint one or more bailiffs, who shall have the same authority, within
