old Donaldson's bridge formerly stood, shall be maintained as a free
bridge, at the equal charge of said counties.

160. There shall be appointed annually by the County Commissioners,
the first appointment to date from the time when the bridge shall be
completed and ready for use, some competent person to act as bridge-
keeper of the bridge over 'South river, built under the provisions of the
Act of 1872, Chapter 391, and who shall be always on the spot when his
duties may require his presence; and it shall be his duty to give free
passage, by raising or removing the draw, to all vessels which may ap-
proach said bridge for the purpose of passing through the same; and
said bridgekeeper for his services' shall receive such compensation as the
County Commissioners shall think just and proper, to be provided for
in the annual levy.

161. There shall be appointed annually by the County Commissioners
some competent person to act as bridgekeeper of the bridge over the
Patapsco River, provided for in the Act of 1876, Chapter 376, whose duty
it shall be to attend to the opening and closing of the draw in said bridge
when required, and also to attend to such other duties in regard to keep-
ing said bridge in safe and proper condition for public travel as may be
required; and the said bridgekeeper shall receive for his services such
compensation as the County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County
shall think just and proper, to be provided for in their annual levy.

162. The County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County and the
County Commissioners of Prince George's County, be and they are hereby
authorized, empowered and directed to purchase the bridge over the
Patuxent river known as Hill's Bridge, together with the abutments and
all other appurtenances thereto belonging or appertaining, and to keep
and maintain the same as a free bridge at all times, if the owners thereof,
will on or before the first day of October, eighteen hundred and ninety-
two, agree to sell the same unto the said County Commissioners of Anne
Arundel County and the County Commissioners of Prince George's Coun-
ty at a price not to exceed the sum of five thousand dollars.
If the County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County and the County
Commissioners of Prince George's County shall not be able, by mutual
agreement to purchase said Hill's bridge from its owners, as provided
in the preceding section of this Act, then and in that case, the said County
Commissioners of Anne Arundel County and the County Commissioners
of Prince George's County are hereby authorized, empowered and di-
rected to build a substantial bridge over said river, from some suitable
point on the Anne Arundel County shore of said river to a convenient
and practicable point on the Prince George's County shore; and said
