LICENSES.

647. No person shall have or own any dog or bitch, or keep the same
within the limits of said town, if the same be over six months old, unless
he pay a license therefor to the Mayor and City Council, on or before
the first day of June in each and every year, of fifty cents for each dog,
,and of one dollar for each bitch. And the said Mayor and City Council
shall have power to provide by ordinance for the impounding and killing
of every dog or bitch whose owner shall fail or refuse to pay said license,
and shall also have power to provide by ordinance for the imposition of
a fine upon the owner or harborer of any such dog or bitch who does not
pay said license.

648. No person shall exhibit any circus or menagerie, or give any
theatrical exhibition or other show within the limits of said town until
he shall have paid such license therefor as the said Mayor and City Coun-
cil shall prescribe, which shall not exceed twenty dollars for each show
or exhibition; provided that this section shall not apply to entertainments
given for religious benefit or for charitable purposes, nor to entertainments
given by the residents of the town not for gain. The said Mayor and City
Council may also prevent the exhibition of any indecent or immoral shows
in said town.
"B." All licenses or permits now provided to be issued by the Mayor
and City Council of Laurel, or in its name, or which may hereafter be
provided for by legislative enactment or by ordinance shall be issued by
the collector, who shall keep an accurate and complete record thereof.

649. The County Commissioners of Prince George's County shall an-
nually pay to the Mayor and City Council of Laurel, when and as col-
lected, less the expenses of collection, all taxes levied or taxed for public
roads on property within the limits of the said town, which shall be ex-
pended by the said Mayor and City Council in the repair and improve-
ments of the streets and roads within the limits of said town.
CITY SOLICITOR.

650. The Mayor shall on the fourth Monday in April, of each and
every year, appoint a City Solicitor, subject to the confirmation of the City
Council, who shall be the legal representative of the Mayor and City Coun-
cil, of Laurel, and shall receive an annual salary of one hundred dollars.

651. No hogs shall be kept within the corporate limits of the town,
unless they be confined in a pen or enclosure at least one hundred and
