3924 ARTICLE 17.

GOVERNMENT.

1912, ch. 695, sec. 193.

601. The government of the said town shall be vested in a Mayor
and five Councilmen, to be elected as hereinafter provided.

1912, ch. 695, sec. 194.

602. The Mayor of said town shall be a person of known integrity,
experience and sound judgment, not less than thirty years of age, not less
than ten years a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the said
town for two years next preceding his election, and assessed upon the
assessment books of said town for not less than three hundred dollars and
shall have paid taxes thereon for not less than one year previous to his
election; and the said Mayor shall hold office for two years and until the
qualification of his successor. And the salary of the said Mayor shall
be fifty dollars per annum.

1912, ch. 695, sec. 195.

603. The City Councilmen of said town shall be citizens of the United
States above the age of twenty-five years, residents of the said town for
not less than two years next preceding the election, and assessed upon the
assessment books of the said town for not less than one hundred dollars,
and shall have paid taxes thereon for not less than one year previous to
his election, and shall hold their office for two years and until the qualifi-
cations of their successors, and the said Councilmen shall each receive one
dollar for each regular and special meeting they attend.

ELECTIONS.

1912, ch. 695, sec. 196.

604. All male citizens of the United States above the age of twenty-
one years who shall have actually resided in the said town of Laurel not
less than one year preceding an election for Mayor and City Councilmen
of said town, and whose names shall appear upon the books of registered
voters as hereinafter provided, shall be qualified voters of said town, and
as such shall be entitled to vote at any election held under the provisions
of this Act.

And the said qualified voters shall on the third Monday in April, 1912,
and every two years thereafter, at such centrally located place within the
said town of Laurel, as the Board of Election Supervisors, hereinafter
provided for, shall designate, vote for one person a.a Mayor of the said
town of Laurel, to serve for two years from the fourth Monday in April,
1912, and until the qualification of his successor; and the said voters
shall also on the said third Monday in April, 1912, and every two years
thereafter, vote for five persons as members of the City Council of Laurel,
to serve for two years and until their successors shall have qualified, two
of whom shall be chosen from the said town at large, but both of whom
