tration officer or Judge of Election, and an officer making an arrest by
direction of any registration officer or Judge of Election shall be pro-
tected in so doing as fully as if a warrant had been issued to him to make
such arrest, and such registration officers, Judges and Clerka of Election
shall be liable to all the penalties now imposed upon registration officers
and Judges and Clerks of Election under said general election laws of
this State for misconduct on their part in the conduct of any such regis-
tration or election.

481. All the provisions of the Public General Laws of this State now
in force or hereafter enacted, providing penalties for illegal registration,
illegal voting, corrupt practices and requiring reports of the expenditure
of money in connection with any election shall be and hereby are made-
applicable to all elections held under the provisions of this act, and any
act done or committed by any person that would be punishable under said
general laws if done or committed in a State or County Election shall be
punishable in the same manner and by the same penalty if done and com-
mitted in any election held under the provisions of this Act. Reports of
expenditures of money shall be made under oath and filed with the Clerk
to the Mayor and Common Council within five days after each election
by all candidates and other persons similar to reports required iinder
said General Laws and such reports shall be open to the inspection of
the public.

482. The Mayor and Common Council shall have full power and au-
thority and are hereby authorized and directed to appoint annually two
registration officers for the entire town; to appoint two judges and two
clerks of election annually for each of said wards; to fix the pay and
compensation of such registration and election officers; to provide books
of registration, ballot boxes, ballots and all necessary forms; to fix the
polling place in each ward, and, whenever the Mayor and Common Council
shall direct a general registration of voters, to appoint for such registration
two registration officers for each ward; to give notice of the time and
place of holding registrations and elections; provided, however, that not
less than seven days notice shall be given; to provide by ordinance or such
other, necessary and further regulations not inconsistent with law, for the
conduct of registrations and elections and for the manner of making nomi-
nations for the offices of Mayor, Councilman and treasurer of said town.

483. The Mayor and Common Council shall meet on the Monday fol-
lowing each election held under the provisions of this Act to receive the
returns from the Mayor or Chairman of the Council, as the case may be,
and to determine and declare the result of the election. The Mayor and
Common Council shall be the sole and exclusive Judges of the returns,
elections and qualifications of the Mayor, Councilmen and Treasurer and
