said County Commissioners in connection with the expenditure of any-
road or highway fund in said county; he shall keep and carefully preserve
all the books and papers in the office of said Commissioners; and shall on
any secular day, not a legal holiday, between the hours of ten o'clock
A. M. and three o'clock P. M., at the request of any citizen or taxpayer
of said county, exhibit the same to such person.

316. The Clerk to the County Commissioners of said County shall be
entitled to an annual salary of twenty-five hundred dollars ($2500); and
the County Commissioners are hereby forbidden to increase said salary
or to give any extra compensation to the said Clerk for any work he may
do in his office.

317. They may annually appoint a Deputy Clerk to assist the Clerk
to the County Commissioners, who before entering upon the duties of his-
office shall take oath and give bond in the penalty of Ten Thousand Dollars
($10,000.00), and in the same manner and form as now required by law
of the clerk to said County Commissioners; and the surety on said bond
shall be some surety company authorized to do business in the State of
Maryland, and the premium on said bond shall be paid by the County
Commissioners of Prince George's County; which Deputy Clerk in the
absence of the Clerk shall act in his place and stead, and be vested with,
his authority, and the Deputy Clerk shall receive a salary of not more than
Twelve Hundred Dollars ($1,200.00) per annum; but nothing in this Act
shall prevent the appointment of the same individual as County Road
Clerk at the salary now fixed by law for said Road Clerk, and the total
salary so received as the Deputy Clerk to the County Commissioners and
as Clerk to said Road Board shall not exceed Eighteen Hundred Dollars
($1,800.00) per annum.
TRANSFER CLERK AND AUDITOR.

318. They shall in the month of March, 1914, and every two years
thereafter appoint a Transfer Clerk and Auditor for Prince George's
County, who shall, subject to the control, direction and decision of the
said County Commissioners, correct and keep the assessment books of
Prince George's County so that the same will truly show the actual owner
or owners of each piece of property thereon. To this end said Transfer
Clerk and Auditor shall diligently hunt for and ascertain the true owner
or owners of all property on said books not in their respective name or
names, also every transfer of property by deed, decree, will, descent or
otherwise, and report the same fully at least monthly to the County Com-
missioners, and said Transfer Clerk and Auditor shall also, as soon as-
practicable, after the last of March in each and every year, audit the
accounts of said County Commissioners, the Treasurer of said county and
