3518 ARTICLE 16.

of any ordinance, rule, or regulation promulgated thereunder, a conviction
for one offense shall not be a bar to a conviction for a continuation of
such offense subsequent to the first or any succeeding conviction.

1927, ch. 692, sec. 13.

642. If any clause, sentence, part or parts of this Act, or of any sec-
tion thereof, shall be held to be unconstitutional, such unconstitutionality
shall not affect the validity of the remaining parts of this act or of any
section theerof. The Legislature hereby declares that it would have passed
the remaining parts of this act or any section thereof, if it had known such
clause, sentence, part or parts of any section thereof should be declared
unconstitutional.*

MOTOR VEHICLES.

1929, ch. 320, sec. 1.

643. The Chief of Police of Montgomery County is hereby authorized
and empowered to sell at public auction any and all abandoned, stolen or
lawfully seized motor vehicles remaining unclaimed for 60 days or more
in the possession or under the control of the Montgomery County Police
and to deposit the funds derived from said sale or sales in the County
Treasury to the credit of the Police Fund; provided that the said Chief
of Police before selling any motor vehicle as herein provided shall make
a reasonable effort to ascertain the owner of said motor vehicle and shall,
if the owner and his residence be known, mail a registered notice to the
said owner at least ten days prior to said sale, and if any owner shall be
so notified and shall fail to take possession of any such motor vehicle
within ten days after said notice shall be mailed then the Chief of Police
of Montgomery County shall sell the same at public auction as herein
provided; and provided further that if the owner of any such motor
vehicle be unknown or if his residence be unknown to the Chief of Police
or if said owner shall fail to take possession of any motor vehicle as herein
provided, then said Chief of Police shall advertise once in some- newspaper
printed and published in Montgomery County that on some day to be
named in said advertisement not less than ten days after the publication
thereof, that he will offer for sale at public auction any such motor vehicle,
abandoned, stolen, lawfully seized or unclaimed as hereinabove set forth,
which advertisement shall set forth the time, place and terms of said
sale, together with a detailed description of said motor vehicle.

1929, ch. 320, sec. 2.

644. The certificate of the Chief of Police of Montgomery County
:hat he has sold any motor vehicle at public auction to a purchaser, shall
constitute sufficient evidence of title to any motor vehicle so sold, in order
to enable any such purchaser to obtain a certificate of Title and Registra-
tion from the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles of Maryland.

*Sec. 14, ch. 692, 1927, repealed all Acts inconsistent therewith.
