said bonds, and to retire one thousand dollars of the principal annually,
and the money thus received shall be known and kept as the "Bond Fund,"
and shall be applied by the said county commissioners to the payment of
the principal and interest of said bonds as aforesaid, and for no other pur-
pose whatsoever, and said tax shall be collected as all other taxes are col-
lected in Howard county.

291. Said bonds shall be sold by said county commissioners at public
sale to the highest responsible bidder therefor, not less than their face
value, for cash, after giving at least three weeks' prior notice, by adver-

293. Sheriff of Howard County shall receive an annual salary of fif-
teen hundred dollars from and after the first day of May, 1908, to be paid
him in quarterly installments of three hundred and seventy-five dollars by
the County Commissioners of Howard County, and the said County Com-
missioners shall pay to the Sheriff, upon the presentation of proper vouch-
ers the actual car fare or team hire incurred by the Sheriff or his deputies
in conducting any prisoner to an institution to which he has been com-
mitted by the proper tribunal, and he shall appoint six deputies, one from
each of the six election districts of Howard County, and the County Com-
missioners of Howard County shall pay said deputies an annual salary of
three hundred dollars each, to be paid in quarterly installments of sev-
enty-five dollars. He shall collect all fees and charges to which he may
be entitled by law, and exercise all powers conferred upon him by law to
enforce the collection of same, and shall at the end of each month during
his term of office make a sworn report of the same to the County Commis-
sioners of Howard County, in such form as said Commissioners of
Howard County may direct, and pay over the same to the County Com-
missioners of Howard County; whenever any Sheriff shall retire from
office leaving any costs, fees or charges uncollected, lawfully payable to
him, his successor shall collect and pay over the same. He shall appoint
a warden of the county jail who shall be under his supervision and direc-
tion, who shall take charge of the jail and carefully and securely guard all
prisoners who shall be placed in said jail, which said warden shall receive
the sum of five hundred dollars annually as salary for his services as such
