3064 ARTICLE 14.

the western side of said right of way to the division line between the land
now or formerly owned by John H. Shaab and Thomas W. Hook; thence
following said division in a westerly course to the intersection of the
land now or formerly owned by John H. Shaab and Thomas W. Hook
and the east side of the Baltimore and Washington Turnpike Road; thence
in a southerly direction and bearing along the east side of said Baltimore
and Washington Turnpike Road to the land of John A. Hartkis, directly
opposite the Montgomery Road; thence northerly along the west side of
said Montgomery Road to the intersection of said Montgomery Road and
the Lawyers' Hill Road (now a State road); thence in an easterly direc-
tion and along the east side of said Lawyers' Hill Road to the place of
beginning; and for the accomplishment of the purposes of this Act the
persons and property residing and bearing on the lines of the description
herein contained, as well as the persons and property residing and bear-
ing within said lines, shall be subject to the tax or special levy herein
provided for.

122. The inhabitants of Ellicott City, in Howard County, are hereby
constituted a body corporate, by the name of the Commissioners of Elli-
cott City; and by that name may sue and be sued, purchase and hold real,
personal and mixed property; and may have and use a common seal.

123. The limits of said City shall be as follows, viz: Commencing at
the Arch Bridge, in Baltimore County, on the Frederick Turnpike Road,
below the Patapsco Flour Mills, and from thence running up with
Cooper's Branch, to the dividing line between the property of The Granite
Manufacturing Company and John Cavanaugh; thence by a straight line
to Major Peter's gate on the Patapsco Institute road; thence from said
point with a straight line to a point on the Jonestown Road where the lines
of Major Peter and Gerhard Marischen- intersect; thence by a straight
line to the northeast corner of the house formerly occupied by Leander
Burgess on the Frederick Turnpike Road; thence from said point to Dr.
Denny's gate on the Columbia Turnpike Road; thence by a straight line
to Mrs. Frances Hazelhurst gate; and thence to the place of beginning,
all of which said calls being as they existed in 1867, saving and except-
ing, however, all that part of Ellicott City, as contained within the above
metes and bounds, which lies on the east side of the centre of the channel
of the Patapsco River and which is situated in Baltimore County, which
portion so excepted shall no longer be or constitute a part of Ellicott City.

ment and to levy taxes to pay interest on and to redeem said notes.
