faithful performance of the duties of his office.

219. Said bond shall be recorded in the office of the clerk of the
Circuit Court for said county.

220. The said Clerk to the County Commissioners shall, from the first
day of January, 1924, receive such annual salary as the County Com-
missioners of Harford County shall direct, which salary shall be paid in
equal monthly installments.
The County Commissioners may appoint such additional clerk or clerks,
from time to time, as may be found necessary to the proper discharge of
the duties of their office, under such safeguards as the County Commis-
sioners may deem requisite, from time to time, and such additional clerk
or clerks shall receive such sum or sums of money as said County Com-
missioners shall deem proper for the services rendered, which said sums
shall be payable monthly during such time as said additional clerk or
clerks may be employed. The County Commissioners may appoint such
additional clerk or clerks from time to time as may be found necessary
to the proper discharge of the duties of the County Treasurer, and said
County Treasurer shall be allowed for such clerk's hire such sum or sums
as the County Commissioners shall deem necessary for the proper con-
ducting of the Treasurer's Office.
The compensation herein provided for all such clerks so employed shall
be paid only upon vouchers duly issued by the County Commissioners and
payable by the Treasurer of Harford County.

221. All vacancies in the office of Clerk shall be filled by the County
Commissioners.

222. He shall give his personal attendance at and keep open the office
of County Commissioners during business hours on every week day ex-
cepting legal holidays.

223. He is authorized and empowered to administer an oath or affirma-
tion to any person presenting a claim to the commissioners against the
county, for which services he shall be entitled to make the same charge
that is allowed to justices of the peace of the County.

224. The County Commissioners shall levy annually such sum of
money as they may deem sufficient to pay the expenses which may be
annually incurred by the attendance of jurors, bailiffs, criers and wit-
