COUNTY COMMISSIONERS.

1892, ch. 321, sec. 31A.

80. At the general election to be held on the first Tuesday after the first
Monday of November, eighteen hundred and ninety-three, there shall be
elected three County Commissioners for Garrett County, that is to say,
two for the term of four years and one for the term of two years; and
from and after such election, there shall be three County Commissioners
for Garrett County, and at every general election in every second year
thereafter, there shall be elected respectively on the first such general
election, one commissioner to serve for the term of four years, and at
the second such general election thereafter, there shall be elected two
commissioners to serve for the term of four years, and the terms of all
commissioners after the first election provided for in this act shall be for
four years, and said commissioners so elected shall receive the same com-
pensation as now provided by law.*

81. If at any time the number of county commissioners shall be re-
duced to less than three, the Governor shall appoint a proper person to
fill such vacancy until the general election, and if the term of the com-
missioner whose place shall be so filled be not then completed, a commis-
sioner shall then be elected to serve for such unexpired term.

82. They shall meet on the first Monday of every month in each year,
except during the months of March, April and September, when they
shall meet as follows:

They shall meet on the third Monday in March, the second Monday
in April, and the second Monday in September, and may call special meet-
ings whenever they think proper.

83. They may classify the business of the county, and designate the
meetings at which the several classes of business shall be disposed of.

84. Each commissioner shall receive three dollars and fifty cents for
each day's session of the board, and shall also receive eight cents per
mile, each way, for going to and returning from each meeting, but such
mileage shall be allowed but once during a session.

85. They shall have power to appoint a clerk, who shall give bond to
the State of Maryland, in the penalty of one thousand dollars, to be
